Bloody hell - a mouse, in my kitchen!
Now that’s a ‘first’.
(and before anyone asks - no, I don’t want a cat.)

“Despite that performance, the bank paid out £785m in bonuses to staff in total last year.”
I have only one thing to say about this; it begins with a “C” and rhymes with “stunts”.

Packaging
It sometimes seems as though we’re swimming in an endless sea of packaging.
It’s everywhere - don’t believe me?
Take a look in your pantry, bathroom cabinet or that cupboard under the sink in the kitchen - now do you believe me?
A mind-boggling array of bottles, tubes, packets and boxes.
Now, while it can be over-done, I generally feel packaging to be quite practical and...

Witch-hunt.
Charlie Brooker took a rather fine swipe at The Sun on 10 O’clock Live the other night. It went something like this…
Mondays Sun also included a powerful column by Fleet Street Legend Trevor Kavanagh, in which he thundered that Sun journalists were being subjected to a witch-hunt.
Now, some say it’s rich of the Sun to complain about witch-hunts because it’s...

Tomatoes get their flavour from an enzyme - one that breaks down at around 4°C.
So don’t put tomatoes in the fridge.

Dreamt I was watching an armoured knight ride out to battle - except this knight was a crab, and his steed was a seahorse.

Was eating a goose liver sandwich. It was in the ‘open’ style, so I could see that the liver was raw and glistening - it also had a lot of ‘plumbing’ attached (this resembled electrical circuit diagrams, but made from veins). It...

I just caught the tag-end of one of those reality TV cop shows.
This is a British thing, broadcast by the BBC, called “Motorway Cops” and all about… well, I think you can figure that bit out for yourselves. The format is the same as most of the other shows of its ilk:
People get busted.
A voice-over, at the end of the show, tells you what happened to them.
So, I tune in...

Anonymous asked: Can you explain Maxi Rodriguez to me? On the BBC website his name is listed as "Rodriguez Maxi", which is consistent with his shirt, which says "Maxi". On the other hand, game commentators (admittedly on US tv) refer to him as "Maxi Rodriguez". Please disambiguate.

Whenever I hear “Lydia the Tattooed Lady” I am always reminded of this:
On the chest of a barmaid from Sale,
Was tattooed all the prices of ale.
Whilst on her behind,
For the sake of the blind,
Was the same information in Braille.

Coronal Mass Ejection.
Our dear old Sun has been turbulent lately, with the largest solar storm since 2005.
As a result, streams of high-energy particles have been bombarding Earth and being deflected by our magnetic field, forming an impressive display called the “aurora borealis” or “northern lights”. The strength of the particle stream, coupled with a moonless night sky, meant that the...

Stamp.
I received a letter the other day - with a stamp affixed to the envelope.
Nothing unusual there, I hear you say and you’d be right - it is traditional to put stamps on letters. In fact, the world’s postal services are downright sniffy about delivering letters without stamps. Here is the item in question:
Now stamps come in all shapes and sizes; usually with pictures of famous...

Sherlock.
I’ve never been a fan of Sherlock Holmes. Perhaps this was due to watching those dreadful old black and white films as a kid - Basil Rathbone with pipe, deerstalker and cape - meh! I know I attempted to read one of the novels once, but the writing left me cold and I abandoned it (which puts Sir Arthur Conan Doyle into a very select group: authors whose work I have been unable to finish...
